Born in 1943, in Hilversum, Holland, Stefan Hoff studied at the Academy of Dance
in Amsterdam, danced as a soloist with the Cologne Opera Ballet in the ballets
of John Cranko, Maurice Bejart and Todd Bolender.
Stefan Hoff came to the United States on a grant from the Dutch Government
and from the Ford Foundation to study at The School of American Ballet under the
direction of George Balanchine. Soon after he joined American Ballet Theatre as
a soloist, and protégé of Antony Tudor dancing principal roles in “Undertow”,
“Echoing of Trumpets”, and “Romeo and Juliet.” Worked with Jerome Robbins
and Agnes De Mille.
In the early 70’s Stefan Hoff founded “The Film and Dance Theatre” in New York,
with grants from the New York State Council on the Arts and from the
Lepercq Foundation; choreographing and directing twelve productions.
Following this period he went on to choreograph for The Pacific North West Ballet,
The Puerto Rican Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and for “Baryshnikov on Tour”,
and ”The Nutcracker” for The Hartford Ballet.
Since the 1980’s Mr. Hoff has also been painting, designing furniture
and creating sculptures.
